         Chemistry is the study of matter, defined as anything that has mass and takes up space, and the changes that matter can undergo when it is subject to different environments and conditions. 

 Department of Chemistry

       The Government Degree College, Nagari was established in the year 1978. The Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1979-80 and affiliated to S.V. University, Tirupati. At present it has three teaching faculty. The Department prides itself in adopting innovative methods of teaching and learning. It not only concentrates on the academic development the students but also emphasizes on the overall development in personality.

MISSION

The Chemistry department is committed to prepare competitive and professional graduate within an innovative and intellectually stimulating environment by offering quality chemistry learning experiences. To give importance in practical training in chemistry. To important practical skills for gaining employment in industries. To develop research skills among the students. All chemistry completed students must be absorbed on chemical industries, pharma scientist, and teaching field.

 Curricular aspects

• To impart a thorough fundamental knowledge in all fields of chemistry and its application for the advancement of society.
• The department also provides opportunities to its undergraduate students for pursuing internships at private companies so that they can also gain the “industry” experience.
• To inspire and provide the spark and scientific impetus for students to pursue a career in chemistry.
• In the final year students study polymer chemistry, instrumental methods of analysis, drugs and analysis of dairy products.
• The course will prepare them for further study in the fields of chemistry.

On successful completion of course

• The student will be able to explain the periodic properties.
• Explain the preparations and properties of halogens, alcohols, phenols, carboxylic acids, amides,, carbonyl compounds, amino acids and proteins.
• Explain the structures of carbohydrates.
• Explain the analytical methods like qualitative, quantitative analysis.
