The department of commerce was established in 1978 with the college inception with an intake of 60 students comprising both Telugu and English medium of instruction. As the college is situated in bilingual area, the medium of instruction in English is given much importance. Sri P. Prakasam Naidu the first lecturer of this department took strenuous effort and interest for the development of the department. Later on Dr. Guruswamy Reddy was the in charge of the department for a long period. He took all the care in augmenting the department in all aspects. Ever since its inception, the department has been expanding in terms of student strength and faculty. Besides them, Sri K. Narayana Raju (Retired), Dr. K. Purandar Raju, Dr. R. Rajendra Naidu, Dr. S.Ravi Varma, Sri T. Desi Reddy and other stalwarts contributed much invaluably for the development of the department.
Dr. T. Jayarami Reddy, the then Reader in commerce cum Principal (FAC) initiated to start Computer Applications in B.Com Course and NCC unit in the college. M.Com was also introduced in 2015-16 with the efforts of Dr.R Rajendra Naidu, the then principal.

Dr C.S. Sukumar Reddy, Associate Professor of commerce was honoured with the state teacher award for 2012-13 and awarded the best lecturer in commerce was also awarded for 2012-13.

One Major Research Project is ongoing being done by Dr. R. Rajendra Naidu from the department on “Impact of Farmers Suicides on Women in the Suicide Family in A.P,Kerala,Karnataka,Telangana,TamilNadu and Pandichery”.

One Minor Research Project work on “Living and Working Conditions of Women Workers in Un-organized Sector in A.P”is completed by Dr. R. Rajendra Naidu from the department in 2016.

One Minor Research Project work on “A Study the SHG Bank Linkage micro finance and its impact on the empowerment of Muslim Women in A.P and Telangana” is going on by Dr. K. Manohar, Reader in Commerce of present.

Four lecturers having Doctoral Degrees are working at present in the department and other two faculty members are also inquiring and pursuing for Ph.D.

The Department of Commerce is has it’s own Computer Lab in Arts & Commerce Building Campus. The Lab is having 50 Computers systems with Internet facility. The students of B.Com (General & and Computers) are utilizing Internet facilities for Computer Language subjects.
